Abstract

Caffeine has a significant impact on energy metabolism, primarily by increasing thermogenesis, lipolysis, and fat oxidation. This can offer benefits for obesity treatment, supporting weight loss and appetite control. The objective of this study is to review the literature on caffeine’s effects on energy metabolism and its potential role in obesity management. A systematic review was conducted using databases like PubMed, Scielo, and Google Scholar, covering studies from 2019 to 2024 with terms such as "caffeine," "thermogenic," "obesity," and "weight loss." Findings indicate caffeine enhances thermogenesis, fat oxidation, and suppresses appetite, while also boosting physical performance and aiding in weight control. However, individual variability and potential adverse effects, like insomnia and anxiety, should be considered. This review contributes to understanding caffeine’s role in energy metabolism and obesity treatment, highlighting both its potential benefits and limitations.
