Abstract
This article addresses the experience in the Technological Innovation Program (TIP) as a mechanism for promoting academic entrepreneurship by means of a case study of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The links between scientific and technological developments of the university, as measured by published articles and patent applications, and the potential of academic entrepreneurship are emphasized. Moreover, the paper highlights the need to improve the mechanisms of generating technological innovations and technology-based small businesses from universities and technology transfer, based on pioneering experiences such as PII in the state of Minas Gerais.
