This work presents a different distance evaluation technique that combines the properties of the Zadoff–Chu sequences with the advantages of the OFDM modulation scheme. The resulting signal is very robust against the multipath that is the most important problem of any indoor positioning system. The signal is composed of only pilot subcarriers, and it can be fully generated in digital domain leading to a very simple architecture for the transmitter and the receiver. The capabilities of the proposed technique were tested evaluating the distance between two active devices synchronized and connected through cables with different length. The system was able to achieve an accuracy of 0.2 cm and a mean final precision of 0.65 cm using a signal with 100 MHz of bandwidth and 64 subcarriers.
