Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to provide an overview of effective social studies learning for elementary school students so that not only aspects of their knowledge can be developed, but the understanding of the material they have obtained can also help develop their abilities, attitudes, and behavior in everyday life. Education in Indonesia is currently guided by the 2013 Curriculum. The 2013 Curriculum has three aspects of assessment, namely aspects of attitude and behavior, knowledge, and aspects of skills. Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 22 of 2016 concerning Standards for the Primary and Secondary Education Process explains thar the learning process in educational units in carried out interactively, inspiring, fun, challenging, motivating students to participate actively, and providing sufficient space for initiative, creativity, and independence in accordance with the talents, interests, and physical and psychological development of students. Therefore, each educational unit carries out learning planning, implementation of the learning process, and assessment of the learning process to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the achievement of graduate competencies. The regulation also explains that one component of the learning implementation plan is learning media, in the form of learning process aids to deliver learning materials. The use of map media can help teachers in teaching 5 th grade elementary school students in understanding the material of indonesia's geographical conditions and their effects.
