Abstract

We consider the Einstein-Euler equations for a simple ideal fluid in the domain where the speed of sound and the specific enthalpy are positive. Using a Lagrangian description of the fluid flow, we obtain evolution equations which are symmetric hyperbolic. Pressure free matter is discussed as a simple subcase. © 1998 The American Physical Society.
