Abstract

Disodium 4 , 4 bis - (1 , 3 , 5 - triazinylamino) stilbene - 2 , 2 disulfonate derivatives were synthesized by reacting 4 , 4 diaminostilbene - 2 , 2 disulfonic acid with 2 , 4 , 6 - trichloro - 1 , 3 , 5 - triazine . The resulting dichloro - sym - triazinyl inter - mediate was further condensed in two steps with amines by nucleophilic substitutions reaction on their triazine moiety to furnish the fluorescent brighteners . The structures of these compounds were characterized by using spectroscopic techniques i . e . , 1 H - NMR , FT - IR , UV and elemental analysis . These compounds were used as whitening agents of 100% cotton fiber and their performance was evaluated by light fastness , chlorinated water fastness , washing fastness and CIE whiteness measurements .
