Abstract

A Hybrid RANS/LES 3D unsteady numerical simulation of aerodynamic noise of NREL PHASE VI wind turbine at the wind speed of 7 m/s was performed with commercial CFD software ANSYS FLUENT, in which LES turbulence model was applied to analyze the aerodynamic noise of the wind turbine combining with FW/H model. But numerical simulation of aerodynamic noise performed with the similar method of the NACA0018 airfoil and its modified airfoils was carried out in the first step. The NACA0018 airfoil was modified by wavy leading edge and openings on both surfaces of the airfoil. And then, the results have shown the feasibility of the hybrid method RANS/LES and noise reduction effect of modified airfoils. The contrast analysis of overall sound pressure level at different receivers also shows the tower's effect of NREL PHASE VI wind turbine. What is the most meaningful is that the optimization results also lay a foundation for NREL PHASE VI wind turbine on noise optimization in the late.
