Abstract

In order to reach the efficient performance of Pr3+ doped fiber lasers, we present a numerical model for continuous wave operation of a Pr3+: ZBLAN, and study the influence of the fiber length and Pr3+ concentration on the pump power, optimum reflectivity of FBG 2, optimum fiber length, threshold and slope efficiency at 638 nm. The shooting technique is applied to estimate the initial conditions and finite difference method is used for solving the rate and propagation equations. The flowchart for calculating the numerical solutions is presented. In this work we analyze and optimize the laser parameters in details which is crucial to experimental design.
