Collecting and Handling Milk Samples

Abstract

The key to accurate quality and compositional test results is a representative sample. Procedures for sampling from farm bulk tanks, truck tanks, storage tanks, and various locations in processing plants are outlined. The new sampling program of the Food and Drug Administration has improved greatly sampling practices from farm bulk tanks. Procedures for sampling from transport and storage tanks need to be adopted. Sampling continues to be a major reason for variations of quality and compositional test results. © 1977, American Dairy Science Association. All rights reserved.
