Abstract
A cheap and simple condensation method was used to obtain 5-(1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazol-2-yl)-thiophene-2-carbaldehyde. This compound was then carefully characterized in terms of its properties. High thermal stability has been demonstrated. Absorption and emission measurements were performed in solvents of different polarities. Also, electrochemical tests allowed for the experimental determination of the HOMO, LUMO, and energy gap values. Quantum-chemical calculations confirmed the conducted experiments. The presented compound was tested in fixated and live cell imaging.
