Abstract

New records of planktonic cyanobacteria in New Zealand freshwaters are reported. Identified for the first time were one genus, Sphaerocavum, represented by one species, and one species of Apha-nocapsa, five species of Microcystis, and three of Anabaena. Microcystis panniformis has previously been recorded only from tropical or subtropical regions. Descriptions, drawings, and photographs of species are presented. © 2005 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
