Crossing the digital divide - moving from film to filmless radiology

Abstract

A picture archiving and communication system (PACS) is phased implemented where the overriding design goal is to move as quickly toward filmlessness as budget and technology would allow, while maintaining functionality that equaled or exceeded historical performance. A high profile user of diagnostic imaging services is selected. The criteria for selection includes: opportunity for demonstrable improvement in patient care; opportunity for improvement in patient satisfaction; and opportunity for a positive impact on physician practices.
