Abstract
The article presents a study that investigated perceived discrimination, depressive symptoms and depression care in diabetic African Americans. Participants completed questionnaires and provided fingerprick blood samples for glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) assessment after informed consent. In linear regression, the Schedule of Racist Events (SRE) frequency scores and covarieties predicted depressive symptoms. It links perceptions of discrimination within health care settings to not taking antidepressants.
