Abstract

Tuberous sclerosis is a rare congenital disorder characterised by the presence of adenoma sebaceum, epilepsy and mental retardation. The condition may be associated with the existence of multiple potato like tumours in the heart, kidney, retina, brain and intestine. A case of tuberous sclerosis associated with meningococcal meningitis is reported. This was treated as a case of meningococcal meningitis with sulphadiazine and crystalline penicillin and the patient improved in a week. The patient exhibited the presence of brownish papules of variable size over the nose, cheeks and forehead, which were recognised as adenoma sebaceum. (22 references.)
