Abstract

The number of corn cobs is very abundant along with the increase of corn consumption. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the potential of corn cob as a substrate hydroponic of pakchoi by combining it with sand and several types of nutrient sources. The study was conducted with the use of several sources of nutrients to obtain alternative sources of nutrients other than AB mix which commonly used in hydroponics cultivation. The research was carried out from April to June 2016 in Faculty of Agriculture's Greenhouse, UNS. Research utilized completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, nutrients (AB Mix, Gandasil D TM , POC (liquid organic fertilizer)Supermes TM) and comparisons of sand combined with corn cob (100%+0, 75%+25%, 50%+50%, 25%+75%, and 0+100%). It was clear from the result that AB Mix nutrient generated better root growth. Combination of AB Mix and sand 100% produced the highest growth and yield. Corn cob and the other nutrient (Gandasil D TM dan POC) have not been able to become an alternative medium and nutrient for Pakchoi hydroponically cultivated.
