Abstract

A de terminatio n of the absol ute valu e of th e acceleration du e to gravity was completed in Jun e 1965 at the Na tional Bureau of Standard s near Ga ithersburg, Maryland. The determin ation res ulted in a valu e of 980.1018 ce ntimeters per second squ ared for a reference point on the first floor of the E ngine ering Mechanics Buil ding. T he res ult was published in The Journ al of Re search of the Na tional Bureau of Stan da rd s, Vol. 70C, No. 2, Enginee rin g and In strumentation, page 149, April-Ju ne 1966. The present paper describ es in detail the ap paratu s and the techniques employed and presents the sum marized da ta fro m which the valu e was derived.
