Abstract

Here, we discuss the required educationãnd training for the emergentãnd evolving roles of GPsãnd other healthcare professionals within Integrated Care Systems (ICSs). We underscore the importance of collaborative skills forãll medical specialties,ãnd the need for interprofessional educationãnd leadership development in undergraduateãnd postgraduate medical training. Weãlsoãrgue forã paradigm shift in medical education,ãway from traditional siloedãpproachesãnd toward comprehensive training that prepares practitioners to excel in integratedãnd multidisciplinary healthcare environments, within which expert generalists (GPs)ãnd specialists collaborate in individual patient careãnd concurrently co-develop innovative system pathways for chronic medical conditions, including complexityãnd frailty. We highlight the need toãlign workforce development with evolving healthcare systemsãnd the existing obstacles hindering thisãlignment.
