Abstract

Written with the freedom of the essay, this text covers, from a panoramic perspective, the history of education over the past 150 years. We have chosen four dates which serve as a "pretext" for the argumentation: 1870-period of consolidation of the school model; 1920-publication of the New Education manifesto, Transforming schools; 1970-publication of two reference works, Reproduction in education, society and culture and Deschooling society; 2020-Covid-19 and the biggest "experiment" in the history of education. The essay is crossed by an interrogation on the "end" of education or, to be more precise, on the "end" of the school model.
