Abstract

The simultaneous pharmacokinetics of indomethacin in the serum and synovial fluid of 7 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were studied after a single 50 mg oral dose. A spectrophotofluorometric assay for indomethacin was used. Indomethacin readily appears in the serum and synovial fluid. The kinetics of the synovial fluid concentrations may reflect the temporal characteristics of the therapeutic response to indomethacin. The data presented clear the way for meaningful efficacy studies with the drug in rheumatoid arthritis.
