Luis Antônio Verney e as reformas culturais portuguesas: uma questão pedagógica

Abstract

The cultural and political process observed during the 18th century presents specific characteristics which do not allow a generalized analysis. In Portugal, reforms which took place as from the Pombaline ministry met the centralized wishes of the marquis. From this perspective, this article analyses the influence the pedagogy of the Jesuit priest Luis Antônio Verney had over that period in Portugal as well as the impact it had within the intellectual and traditional circle of the Society of Jesus, which Verney left to develop his theories on teaching.
