Abstract

Oxidation of benzocyclobutene by intact cells of Pseudomonas fluorescens 127-68 XVII, containing naphthalene dioxygenase, yielded exclusively benzylic oxidation products; benzocyclobutene-1-ol and benzocyclobutene-1-one. No evidence for incorporation of oxygen into the aromatic ring was found.
