Abstract
The description of nature in Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo’s work has been studied as the beginning of the research on the natural history of the New World, which a closer reading makes it possible to link to other disciplinary fields. In this article, it is suggested that Oviedo was approaching its nature with the aim of placing the New Continent within the context of the spice trade, from where it had been removed at the end of the 15.th century.
