Abstract
Like other famous bird-rich areas such as Morocco, Israel, Turkey and Thailand, the location of the United Arab Emirates has created an avifauna with elements from more than one zoogeographical area. This meeting place of Afrotropical, Palearctic and occasionally Oriental species is a rich area for study by local ornithologists and acts as a magnet to today's travelling birders.
