Abstract

Several species of the genera Tinospora (Menispermaceae) are widely distributed over Asia and Africa and are well-known for their medicinal properties. From the stems of Tinospora hainanensis, a new N- methyltetrahydroprotoberberine alkaloid, N-methyltetrahydrocolumbamine, was isolated and characterized on the basis of NMR, MS and X-ray.
