Abstract
The utilization of chicken by-products as an additional ingredient in complementary feeding (MP-ASI) represents a significant innovation in efforts to prevent stunting. Stunting, a form of chronic malnutrition, not only results in impaired physical growth but also affects cognitive development and immune function in children. This community service initiative aimed to evaluate the perceptions of Posyandu cadres regarding the use of chicken by-products as a nutritional source for MP-ASI. The program was conducted with 18 Posyandu cadres in Batukaras Village, Pangandaran. Activities began with a pre-test, followed by a presentation, practical demonstrations on processing chicken by-products, interactive discussion and a post-test to assess changes in cadres' perceptions. The results showed a significant improvement in the cadres' understanding and acceptance of using chicken by-products in MP-ASI. Post- test scores were notably higher than pre-test scores, particularly in perceptions of the benefits of chicken skin, liver, and bones as nutrient sources with potential to prevent stunting. This socialization effort successfully increased cadres' awareness of the importance of diversifying local nutritional sources by utilizing chicken by-products that are both economical and highly nutritious. Continued education and wider dissemination of information on the use of chicken by-products are expected to strengthen stunting prevention efforts at the community level.
