Abstract
Mateo Vázquez de Leca (c. 1542-1591), canon of the cathedral of Seville, archdeacon of Carmona and secretary of Philip II, was one of the most influential figures in the last third of the reign of Philip II. This article offers a reconstruction of the role that books played in the formation and the political office of the royal secretary, and analyzed, through numerous sources, how was the process of building his library.
