Abstract

This article discusses a public health programme in Cali, Colombia, which aims to alter the risk factors associated with urban violence, and ultimately reduce and prevent this social disease. The following risk factors are described: cultural regulation and education; consumption of alcohol and other drugs; violence in the media; and firearms. The principles of the progamme are discussed in detail.
