Abstract
Five polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci were identified in Labeo dero (Hamilton Buchanan), through cross-species amplification. Thirty-one primers developed for three cyprinids were tested in the study. The genetic variation detected at each polymorphic microsatellite locus was analysed. Significant genotype heterogeneity indicated that the samples are not drawn from same genepool. The identified microsatellite loci exhibited promise for use in fine scale population structure analysis of L. dero. © EDP Sciences, IFREMER, IRD 2005.
