Relacionamentos em tesauros: o valor semântico dos verbos

Abstract

Os relacionamentos que compõem a estrutura conceitual dos tesauros podem ser mais claros e inteligíveis para humanos e máquinas quando explicitamente representados. De forma geral, essa representação é realizada através de verbos ou expressões verbais. Por essa razão, a Linguística forneceu importantes aportes teóricos. A abordagem discutida neste artigo foi desenvolvida por Borba (1996), tendo por base as teorias da Gramática de Valências e da Gramática de Casos, utilizadas na representação dos relacionamentos em sistemas de organização do conhecimento (SOC) do tipo tesauro. Essa abordagem tem como foco a classe gramatical do verbo e trabalha com os distintos papéis temáticos que o mesmo desempenha dentro de uma frase. Os resultados permitiram perceber que os relacionamentos existentes em um tesauro não podem desprender-se do domínio analisado, assim como também o verbo precisa de seu contexto para ser apreendido. O sentido, tanto do relacionamento quanto do verbo, resulta de uma construção social localizada.The relationships that form the conceptual structure of thesauri can be more readily understood to humans and machines when explicitly represented. In general, this representation is realized through the use of verbs or verb phrases. For this reason, Linguistics provided important theoretical contributions. The approach discussed here was developed by Borba (1996), which based his study on the Grammar of Valence and Grammar of Cases theories and used in the representation of relationships in knowledge organization systems (KOSs) of the thesaurus type. This approach focuses on the verb grammar class and its different thematic roles in a sentence. The results showed that the existing relationships in a thesaurus cannot be separated from the domain analyzed as well as the verb needs to be in context to be understood. Both meanings of the relationship and the verb result from a localized social construction.
