Methoxyflurane analgesia for burns dressings and other painful ward procedures in children

Abstract

Summary: Methoxyflurane, administered from a Cardiff Penthrane inhaler was used as an analgesic agent for burns dressings and other painful ward procedures in a series of 36 children, aged 4 months to 13 years, on 94 occasions. No other intraoperative analgesics were required and preoperative sedation was used only six times in four patients. Preoperative starvation was unnecessary and no side effects were observed. Of the 94 administrations, analgesia was assessed as "very good" or "good" on 67 (71%) occasions. © 1972 John Sherratt and Son Ltd.
