Abstract

Patient: A 25-year-old woman of Chinese, Portuguese, and Filipino ancestry. Chief Complaint: The patient has been referred for a hematology consultation because of marked thrombocytosis levels that had been incidentally detected during routine testing performed as part of a physical examination that is a prerequisite for gamete donation. History of Present Illness: The patient had relocated to the United States from the Philippines 10 months previously. She had seen a fertility specialist 10 days previously to determine her suitability as a gamete donor. As part of the physical examination, routine bloodwork was performed, including a metabolic profile, complete blood count (CBC), and coagulation screening tests (prothrombin time [PT]/ activated partial thromboplastin time [APTT]). Past Medical and Surgical History: Unremarkable. Family History: Unremarkable. Social History: Patient reported no alcohol, tobacco, or recreational drug use. Physical Examination: Vital signs: temperature, 36.66°C; pulse, 80 beats per minute; respiratory rate, 16 breaths per minute; blood pressure, 144/80 mmHg. The patient was of normal weight and appeared to be well-nourished.
