Abstract

The antibacterial activity of chloroacetyl, dichloroacetyl, and dibromoacetyl derivatives of biphenyl, diphenylmethane, diphenylethane, diphenyl ether, diphenyl sulfide, diphenyl sulfoxide, and diphenyl sulfone was studied. The chloromethyl aryl ketones and the dibromomethyl aryl ketones are active against the Micrococcus pyogenes, but their activity is greatly reduced in the presence of serum. The dichloromethyl aryl ketones are active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and their activity is not reduced by serum. © 1963, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
