Abstract

To clarify the mechanism of the tubular pinch effect of suspensions, experimental investigations are carried out on the basis of the results obtained by a study on a single particle reported in our previous paper . By rearranging the experimental results with the particle Reynolds number Rep, it was confirmed that the tubular pinch effect of suspensions may be essentially similar to that of a single particle. But if Rep increases, the influence of the interaction of particles appears. Especially, when Rep becomes greater than about 10SUB-SUB1, a necklace-like formation of particles appears and develops. And this is the main reason for the tubular pinch effect in that region of Rep . (A)
