Turismo cultural e patrimônio: a memória pantaneira no curso do rio Paraguai

Abstract

A lenta ocupação do extremo Oeste brasileiro encontra-se registrada, através de uma série de vestígios arqueológicos e históricos, às margens daquele que foi o caminho natural de penetração humana na região: o rio Paraguai. Ao longo de seu eixo é possível encontrar, ainda hoje, ruínas de saladeiros ou charqueadas, que constituíram o grande empreendimento econômico do Pantanal até meados do século XX; casas-grandes, que foram sedes de importantes fazendas de onde partiram os pioneiros da ocupação pastoril da planície; e sítios arqueológicos, que registram diversas períodos da ocupação indígena da região, entre outros sinais da presença humana no Pantanal. O levantamento desse patrimônio histórico e cultural e a análise de seu potencial mobilizador da memória e da identidade das populações pantaneiras, tendo por base a atividade turística, constituem-se no objetivo deste estudo.The slow occupation of the westermost Brazil is registered in a series of archeological and historical vestiges along the side of that which was the natural way of human penetration in the region: the Paraguay River. Along its axle it is possible to find, still today, "saladeiros" ruines or "charqueadas", which were the biggest economical project in the Pantanal until the middle of the 20th century. Big houses were seats of important farms from where the pioneers of the occupation of the rural plains left, archeological sites that register various periods of the native occupancy in the region, among other signs of the human presence in the Pantanal. The survey of this inheritance and the analyses of its potential role on the cultural literacy and identity mobilization of the Pantanal population, having the tourism activity as support are the aims of this study.
