77. Cytoplasmic Mutation of Male Sterility Induced by Chemical Mutagens in Sugar Beets

Abstract

Cytoplasmic male sterility was induced by treating with acriflavine (1500 ppm), streptomycin (1500 ppm) and ethidium bromide (2000 ppm). It was shown that the normal cytoplasm converted to the sterile cytoplasm which is equivalent with S cytoplasm of spontaneous origin. The artificial induction of male sterile cytoplasm may be very useful tool for the hybrid seed production of sugar beet breeding. © 1982, The Japan Academy. All rights reserved.
