Abstract

Building Information Modelling (BIM) was first introduced for vertical building projects. Infrastructure in BIM is a major transformation in the civil infrastructure industry. This type of construction has recently become more popular for infrastructure construction, whereby the construction and academia-industry are putting effort into infrastructure BIM implementation and study; however, there has yet to be a specific review on information needs by phases. Therefore, this study is to collect the earlier investigations on the information needs for BIM in infrastructure at every construction phase. This article presents BIM information that requires common practice in various civil infrastructure projects. The basic development of BIM for infrastructure is emphasised in this observation. Through this observation, various information needs were established throughout the infrastructure construction. This article helps to ensure that all information is used at the right time at every phase to prevent any redundant information that might accrue overload data in the cloud throughout the coordination process. This information is essential for all participants in the BIM project, especially for those involved with the design and construction phases.
