Abstract

Considering that it is through the concept of index, that plastic and meaningful characteristics of certain issues are revealed, it is assumed that approaching photography to cultural identity matters might be a wise procedure. This paper is aimed at analyzing pictures shot by photographer Claudia Andujar among the Yanomami, in the 1970’s to find out, through semiotic aesthetic approaches, how such images convey some elements of those Indians’ cultural identity.
