Large annual epizootics of piroplasmosis caused by Babesia bigemina, transmitted by Magaropus calcaratus, occur, especially in the valley of the Danube. Babesiella bovis, probably transmitted by Ixodes ricinus, occurs in a grave form almost everywhere in the country. Babesiella major, generally benign, is restricted to Transylvania. Francaiella caucasica is present only at a locality in the east; the disease clinically corresponds to that of B. bovis. Theileria dispar and T. mutans are limited to a region of Transylvania. T. parva, although reported, does not occur. Anaplasma centrale is restricted, benign and rare. A. marginale has also been reported in Cluj. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: Harold Kirby
