Abstract
This paper presents the role of Dynamic strain ageing (DSA) on Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) properties of a type 304 stainless steel at 823K. Dynamic strain ageing in low cycle fatigue is manifested as a peak in the saturation stress, a minimum in plastic strain, an increase in work hardening rate and is at times associated with serrated stress-strain hysteresis loops. Dynamic strain ageing also increases the inhomogeneity of deformation during fatigue. Persistent slip bands are observed in the interior of the material with an associated intergranular cracking. © 1986 by Freund Publishing House Ltd.
