Abstract
Values have been understood as trans-situational goals linked to affect and related to life experiences and socializing agents, such as family, school, peer group and sports centers. Their influence on behaviors and self-concept has been highlighted, being a fundamental part in the interaction of one’s identity with the world. From the psychological discipline, it has been considered that the measurement of variables contributes to theoretical understanding by strengthening the explanatory and predictive power. The aim of this research was to know the current state of knowledge about values in the sports context: the themes associated with research on values and the instruments used in publications made between 2013-2023. Following the guidelines of the PRISMA method, 437 articles were identified, 43 of which met the inclusion criteria. Four themes were identified, and the terms fair play, personal values, gender dynamics and social norms were proposed for schematization. The most frequently used instrument was the Portrait Values Questionnaire. It is concluded that values in the sports context are multifaceted and their study through diverse instruments has allowed a better understanding of their influence on the behavior and personal development of athletes. Finally, the need to adapt these categories of values to different cultural, sports, age and gender contexts is highlighted.
