Abstract

Abstrack This study is intended to discuss the dynamics of the presidential threshold in Indonesia as seen from the concept of a presidential government system. This was felt to be important because to put an ideal position for the pros and cons regarding the threshold of presidential nomination in elections in Indonesia which is considered as a strengthening of the presidential system. Presidential threshold is defined as the minimum threshold for nominating a presidential election or as the level of electability to become president. The method used in this study is through library research. The results of the study obtained include, strengthening the presidential system through the presidential threshold is less effective and tends to eliminate the right of citizens to be able to vote, nominate themselves and nominate candidates. Second, the form of strengthening the presidential system through the presidential threshold with the aim of simplifying political parties has been implemented through simultaneous elections and political party selection conducted by the General Election Commission. So the conclusion that can be drawn from this study is by removing the presidential threshold in Indonesia because of the irrelevance of the presidential threshold as an effective way to strengthen the presidential system.
