Abstract

This article presents a literature review on widowhood in women in the social sciences. The objective is to show the topics discussed and the approaches from which this research has been carried out. The works examined were organized into three thematic axes: the widow as a social construction, widowhood as a condition of vulnerability and widowhood as a transforming event. Through this review, we recognize that widowhood in women and the concept of widow are a cluster of social constructs that research should continue to explore and questioned. Feminist research is proposed to produce knowledge that motivates the deconstruction of the concept and stimulates the creation of alternatives that resignify and dignify the widowhood lived by women.
