Abstract

Scientists have traditionally assumed that the size of an animal's brain relative to its body is an indicator of intelligence. They have likewise taken for granted that the typical ratio of brain to body size is stable across species, and that an above-average relative brain size reflects natural selection for intelligence. Dolphins and ancestral humans, meanwhile, increased their brain size while their total body size decreased over time. [Extracted from the article]
