Abstract

Lu3Al5O12 (LuAG) single crystals co-doped with Nd and Ce were grown by the Floating Zone (FZ) method to evaluate their scintillation properties particularly in the near infrared (NIR) wavelength. When X-ray was irradiated, the scintillation due to Nd3+4F3/2→4I11/2 transition was observed at 1064 nm. By changing the irradiation dose from 101000mGy, we evaluated the relation between the scintillation intensity and the X-ray dose, and the relation was approximately linear. The scintillation decay time profiles were approximated by two or three exponential decay functions. The observed decay times were 100 ns due to Ce3+, 0.61.0 s due to the garnet host and few μs due to Nd3+.
