Abstract

Catalytic additions of C-H bonds in aromatic hydrazones to olefins proceeded with the aid of ruthenium or rhodium complexes. Several hydrazones can be used in the chelation-assisted C-H/olefin coupling described herein. When a Ru3(CO)12 complex was used as the catalyst, a mixture of the 1:1 addition product, along with the corresponding dehydrogenated coupling products was obtained. In the case of the reaction using RhCl(PPh3)3-catalyst, no dehydrogenated coupling product was obtained and the 1:2 addition product was produced as the major product.
