Abstract

Finite-amplitude wave-activity diagnostics characteristic of the steady-state flow of a stratified Boussinesq fluid over localized topography in two spatial dimensions are considered. In particular, analytic expressions are determined for the small- and finite-amplitude formulations of the pseudoenergy and pseudomomentum associated with Long's stationary solution. The characteristics and utility of such diagnostic tools are highlighted in this simple initial application. -Authors
