Abstract

A potent cytotoxic dimeric macrolide, swinholide A (1), was isolated from the Okinawan marine sponge Theonella swinhoei. The absolute stereostructure of 1, having a dimeric dilactone structure with a 44-membered ring, has been determined on the basis of its chemical behavior and an X-ray crystallographic analysis. © 1990, The Pharmaceutical Society of Japan.
