Participation in its various forms has become an essential element of politics and citizen demands, emphasizing in this regard the so-called environmental participation. This at the same time is closely related to indigenous issues, because of the special connection and dependence that communities have with their environment. Therefore, the existence of the right of indigenous participation has being recognized, presenting some points of contact, but also certain characteristics that differentiate it of citizen participation, with relevant consequences for the understanding of this right. The paper will analyze some aspects of indigenous participation in relation to the environmental problematic.
