Abstract

The Millon test is used to detect the presence of protein in plant tissue. The detected protein molecule will give a brick red color. Millon reagent is a mixture of Hg-nitrate and Hg-nitrite in concentrated nitric acid solution. The hydroxyphenyl group will be titrated by the millon reagent to form a colored complex solution of mercury (Hg), which is a nitrophenyl derivative. This practicum aims to study several test reactions against amino acids and proteins. The sample used in this lab was 2% albumin solution, Millon reagent. The data collection technique was carried out through qualitative observation. The method used is a direct experiment in the Biology Education Laboratory. The result of this practicum is that the albumin changes color to dark purple. Keywords:
