Abstract

At present, the main field of biosensor applications is still the determination of blood glucose, as over 90% of all commercial biosensors are developed for diabetes control. However, regardless of the remarkable success in the development of glucose biosensors, there are numerous other emerging fields to be addressed, particularly the monitoring of environment, healthcare and medical diagnostics. Biosensor based technologies form a promising platform for continuous in-site examination of the markers of the quality of surrounding environment and potentially hazardous compounds, enabling the achieving of rapid results and real – time feedbacks for minimizing the effects of potential threats. The present book is a collection of scientific reports on the recent research and current state of the art in the technology and applications of biosensors for the markers of environment, life quality and health. It consists of 14 chapters, dealing with different aspects and applications of bio – sensing. I would like to express sincere appreciation to all authors who contributed to this book with their research results and wish them success and novel ideas in their studies.
